Brandon Wheat Kings News Release

Brandon, Manitoba -- With the Western Hockey League's official Trade Deadline fast approaching, general managers and player personnel directors will be kept busy Wednesday doing their best to apply the finishing touches to what they hope will bring a strong second half to the 2006-07 regular season.

Wednesday's deadline is 4 p.m. Manitoba time and only a handful of deals had been completed by Tuesday night. Among them was Monday's trade, announced by Saskatoon, that saw the Blades move Boston Bruins' prospect Wacey Rabbit to the defending champion Vancouver Giants. Rabbit had played the first half of the regular season with the Bruins' American Hockey League affiliate in Providence. The Giants meanwhile will host the 2007 MasterCard Memorial Cup in May.

While WHL GM's work the phones on Wednesday, western Manitoba hockey fans participating in the Wheat Kings' Brandon Sun Fantasy Draft this season will be busy reviewing the moves made as they get set to take advantage of their weeklong trading period.

For the netweek, ending January 17th, over seven hundred Fantasy Draft general managers will have the opportunity to make up to five changes or trades to their existing lineup. A trade consists of removing one player from their active roster and replacing that with another from the same fantasy draft group.

Following the completion of the transaction eriod, teams will begin accumulating points earned by their newly acquired players from that point forward.

Entering this week's trade period, Larry Tokaryk leads the Fantasy Draft standings with 2256 points, followed by Kraig Peterson with 2200 and Rick McCaig at 2191.

Results and standings can be found by visiting the Wheat Kings' official web site, hosted by Sobkow Technologies, at www.wheatkings.com

On the ice, the Wheat Kings returned home overnight following a 3-2 Overtime Shootout loss Tuesday night in Regina. The Eastern Division leader, who are 2-2-6 in ten overtime games this season, will have a couple of days off before playing the Raiders in Prince Albert on Friday. Brandon's next home game is Saturday night against the visiting Seattle Thunderbirds. Puck drop is at 7:30 and tickets are on sale now at the Keystone box office, by calling 726-3555 or online at ticketmaster.ca.
