Dozen Hits, Lakewood Errors Fuel Power

(Charleston, WV, May 24, 2013): The West Virginia Power defeated the Lakewood BlueClaws 11-2 Friday night at Appalachian Power Park. The Power offense tallied 12 hits, and was helped by seven errors by the BlueClaws defense.

Lakewood scored one run in the first inning, but the Power responded by scoring five runs in the third inning. Jonathan Schwind started off the inning with a single. Junior Sosa then reached on an error. Max Moroff followed with an RBI single to score Schwind. Sosa then scored on a Dilson Herrera sacrifice fly. With one out, Josh Bell hit an RBI single, scoring Moroff from third. After Stetson Allie had a base hit, D.J. Crumlich hit an RBI double that scored both Bell and Allie

The Power added three more runs in the fourth inning to make the score 8-1. Schwind reached on an error and later scored on an RBI single by Moroff. Herrera followed with a double. With two runners in scoring position, Allie hit an RBI single to score both Moroff and Herrera.

West Virginia scored their final three runs in the sixth inning. Moroff led of the inning with a walk, Herrera followed with a single, and Bell reached on an error. With the bases loaded, Stetson Allie drove in both Moroff and Herrera with a single. Bell later scored on an error on a ball hit by Eric Wood.

John Kuchno (2-3) earned the win by allowing three hits in relief. Nic Hanson (1-1) took the loss for the BlueClaws. Power starter Jake Burnette received a no-decision after going four and one third innings and allowing only three hits.

The Power and BlueClaws continue their four-game series Saturday night at 7:05. Joely Rodriguez will pitch for West Virginia against Lakewood starter Jonathan Musser. Saturday's game is also "Redneck Night" which will feature Mountain Man from A&E's Duck Dynasty. Tickets can be purchased at the Power box office or by phone at (304) 344-BATS
