Pawtucket Red Sox News Release

PAWTUCKET, R.I. -- For the third time in as many starts in 2013, the Pawtucket Red Sox benefited from a brilliant performance by right-hander Terry Doyle, who held Lehigh Valley to two hits in 7.0 innings of Wednesday's 6-1 victory at McCoy Stadium.

Doyle (2-0), a New Hampshire native who attended Boston College and now resides in Warwick, R.I., was working on just three days of rest. He entered with an .091 opponents' batting average, limiting his first two foes to three hits in 11.1 innings, and left with his second win and a 0.98 ERA.

The Iron Pigs, who scored 16 runs in winning the first two games of the series, managed just one hit and had only two men reach safely through the first six innings. Meanwhile, Lehigh Valley starter Cesar Jimenez (LP, 0-1) retired the first 12 batters faced, only to surrender solo homers by Ryan Lavarnway, his first, and Brandon Snyder, his third, in the 5th inning.

After a Darin Ruf leadoff homer in the 7th to make it 2-1, nine PawSox batted in the bottom half of the inning, as they produced four runs on only two hits. Snyder delivered a two-run double, while Brock Holt, who walked, and Drew Sutton, who had a sacrifice fly, added the other RBI off reliever Zach Miner.

Jose De La Torre and Chris Carpenter combined for three strikeouts in the final two innings, as Pawtucket improved to 10-3 overall.

The Sox bid for a series split Thursday afternoon, when they play the finale of an eight-day homestand with right hander Rubby De La Rosa on the mound.
