Doucet Gets a Second Straight Hat Trick

Detroit Red Wings prospect Alex Doucet is playing on another level these days after a second consecutive hat trick to help guide the Halifax Mooseheads to a 6-3 home ice victory over Acadie-Bathurst on Wednesday. The overage forward increased his QMJHL goal scoring lead to 55 and has collected three hat tricks in his last seven games, dating back to March 2nd.
Doucet's banner night came while playing on a line with Jordan Dumais and Josh Lawrence as the trio combined for 12 points in front a healthy crowd of 7,841 at Scotiabank Centre who came out to cheer on the Herd to their 46th win of the season. Halifax improved to 46-10-4-3 for 99 points in the standings. The Mooseheads are down to five games remaining in the season with four of them set to be played on home ice.
The last place Titan managed to put another scare into Halifax, less than a week after blanking the Herd 1-0 at the K.C. Irving Regional Centre. Bathurst held the lead on three separate occasions by scores of 1-0, 2-1 and 3-2 but could only contain a dominating offensive attack for so long. Josh Fleming faced 51 shots while taking the loss between the pipes and the Mooseheads scored three goals in the third period to pull away for the victory.
Jordan Dumais' 49th goal of the season came on the power play at 3:49 of the final stanza and stood as the game-winning tally. That's the 11th game-winning goal of the season for Dumais which is one back of the franchise record of 12 scored in one season that is shared by Jason King and Ramzi Abid. Other Halifax goals were scored by Attilio Biasca and Zach L'Heureux while Josh Lawrence had a four-assist game. Mathis Rousseau picked up the win with 17 saves and settled down after a bit of a rocky start by his standards which included coughing up the puck while attempting a pass which led to an easy Titan goal.
Cole Larkin, Dominik Godin and Donovan Arsenault had the Acadie-Bathurst goals as the teams wrapped up their season series that saw the Mooseheads win seven-of-nine meetings.
Halifax will travel to Saint John on Friday for their final road game of the regular season before returning home to host the Moncton Wildcats on Sunday at 2pm. The Moose also have home games at Scotiabank Centre next Wednesday at 7pm vs Charlottetown and will finish the season with matchups against Cape Breton on Friday, March 24th at 7pm and against Charlottetown on Saturday, March 25th at 4pm.
