Doubleheader Sweep Puts Jackals Two Back of Playoff Picture

The New Jersey Jackals entered Tuesday night opening a huge series with the Trois-Riviers Aigles at Yogi Berra Stadium.

Sitting just four games back of fourth place (the final spot in the Can-Am League playoff standings) the Jackals earned a doubleheader sweep of the Aigles winning 7-1 and 3-1, respectively.

In game one, Jackals left fielder Connor Hofmann delivered a two RBI double in the second inning to score first baseman Nolan Meadows and right fielder Jordan Hinshaw to give the Jackals the 2-0 lead.

Catcher Kevin Torres launched a grand slam in the third inning, good for his fourth home run of the year to bust the game wide open at 7-0. It was Torres first grand slam of the season as well.

Right fielder Michael Suchy hit an RBI double to plate the lone run for the Aigles in the top of the fourth as the Jackals went on to defeat Trois-Rivieres, 7-1.

Jackals south paw Yasmani Hernandez earned his fifth victory of the season after twirling six innings allowing just one run on five hits while while striking out four and walking one.

In game two, the Jackals pitching staff was at it again, allowing just one run in a 3-1 victory to sweep the doubleheader from the Aigles.

Starting pitcher Dylan Brammer hurled four scoreless frames while striking out five and walking four, giving up just two hits.

Like he did in game one, Hofmann got the Jackals on the board first with a two-run single in the bottom of the second to score second baseman Seth Spivey and Hinshaw to make it 2-0.

In the third inning, catcher Andy Mocahbee launched a solo home run for his sixth of the year that nailed the video board in left-center field to up the Jackals tally to 3-0.

David Glaude tagged Evan DeLuca for a solo home run himself in the top of the sixth inning to trim the deficit to two runs at 3-1.

Jackals closer Vin Mazzaro slammed the door for his seventh save of the season, working a one, two, three seventh inning to give New Jersey its 43rd victory of the season.

Game three is set for Wednesday, August 23 at 7:05 P.M. as the Jackals look to move within one game of the Aigles in the standings as the regular season winds to an end.
