Dorados Week Seven Preview

Rio Grande Valley Dorados News Release

Hidalgo, Texas --- The Rio Grande Valley Dorados (4-2) travel to Bakersfield, Ca., to take on the Blitz (4-1) this Saturday night. The Dorados hit the road on the heels of a 43-28 win over Bossier-Shreveport last week, while the Blitz rolled to their third consecutive win 52-20 over Spokane on Saturday.

The Dorados have won both games in the all time series, but will have their work cut out for them this week. Both teams match up well offensively, with the Dorados averaging 48.5 points per game and the Blitz averaging an even 50. Bakersfield, however, boasts the stingiest defense in af2, allowing just 35.4 points and an af2 low 199 yards per game.

Josh Kellett and his receivers will look to rebound from a so-so performance in Week 6. Even with last week's outing, Kellett still leads the league with 136 completions, while Dwight Counter is third overall with 45 receptions. The Dorados have scored the fourth-most TD's in the league (42).

Rookie Torry Joubert made his presence felt in Week 6, making six catches for 49 yards in his second af2 outing. New addition Chris Canty led all af2 rushers last week with 43 yards, and his 35-yard carry set up a Dorados TD early in the game.

Kellett will have to be sharp against a dangerous Bakersfield defense. Alex Wallace is one of the league's top pass defenders with seven pass breakups and six interceptions. He leads af2 in the latter category, while teammate Deron Finley is also in the top-10 with two grabs. Jerry Turner's 3.5 sacks have him ranked seventh in the league.

Catch this week's game live on ESPN Radio 1240 and online at doradosfootball.com. Rich Bocchini has the call with the pregame beginning at 8:45 p.m. CST.
