He started nine of 12 games as a 2002 junior, posting a career-high 71 tackles, including a single-game career-high (2002 team-high) 17 take-downs against Texas Tech, also posting the only interception of the game on acclaimed Red Raiders quarterback Kliff Kingsbury.

Hanton, 24, comes to the Lightning after starting the 2006 af2 season with the Everett Hawks, appearing in two games while tallying three tackles against the Spokane Shock in a 44-41 loss on April 15.
