Rio Grande Valley Dorados News Release

HIDALGO, TX: June 8, 2004 – The Rio Grande Valley Dorados of the arenafootball2 (af2) met for the first time Monday since their 51-38 loss at Tulsa on May 28th and a few changes were made in preparation for this Saturday night’s contest against the Tulsa Talons at Hidalgo’s Dodge Arena. Rio Grande Valley made a trade during their “bye week” with the Tennessee Valley Vipers, acquiring quarterback Bryan Snyder for a future consideration. The Dorados have since placed Snyder on the team’s “Refused to Report” list and have also placed offensive specialist Lawrence Pullen on the team’s suspension list and defensive specialist Marcus Bradley on re-assignment.

Snyder began this season with the Huntsville, Alabama based Vipers squad and was 72 of 136 in passing for 870 yards (174 per game average) and 19 touchdowns in 5 games played. The 6’1” 215-pound native of Stockertown, Pennsylvania is one of the most elite quarterbacks in the league. He is in his fifth year of the af2 and has combined for 11,647 passing yards (10,777 entering this season to rank 3rd on the af2 all-time career list) and 210 career passing touchdowns (had 191 entering this season which ranked 3rd all-time in af2 history) in 53 games. Snyder has completed an af2 all-time leading 1,043 passes in an af2 all-time second best 1,650 passing attempts (63.1%). The 28 year-old Snyder began his career directing the Vipers to the inaugural ArenaCup in 2000, passing for a single-season career best 3,838 yards and tossed 61 touchdowns in 16 games. Snyder was 32 of 50 in passing for 379 yards and 6 touchdowns in the ArenaCup contest, but fell to a 68-59 loss to the Quad City Steamwheelers. The following season (2001) Snyder bounced around the Arena Football League (AFL) and the af2, signing with the AFL’s Toronto Phantoms and playing 5 games in the af2 with the Peoria Pirates (1) and Jacksonville Tomcats (4). He did the same in 2002 signing with the AFL’s Dallas Desperados and then returning to the af2 to play 11 games with Wilkes Barre - Scranton. In 2003, Snyder led the Cape Fear Wildcats to a 10-6 American Atlantic title mark, completing 334 of 477 passes for 3,659 yards. The numbers led to 60 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. Snyder has also played professionally in Germany during the 1998 season with the Hildesheim Invaders of the German League of American Football. He completed 192 of 272 passes for 2,103 yards and 22 touchdowns. His statistics were GLAF single-season records. Snyder was a History major at Division III Albright College in Reading, Pennsylvania and made history as their quarterback. He finished his collegiate career as the most prolific quarterback in Albright College and Middle Atlantic Conference history books, as he completed 763-of-1,294 passes for 9,865 yards, 92 touchdowns and 49 interceptions. In 1997, Snyder finished his senior season 207-of-315 for 2,808 yards, 26 touchdowns and six interceptions on his way to his second consecutive conference MVP honor and conference championship. In 1996, he threw for 2,983 yards, 38 touchdowns and nine interceptions on 223-of-358 passing, earning conference MVP honors and a conference championship. Snyder earned MAC first-team All-star honors as a sophomore full-time starter in 1995. The Nazareth Area High School product completed the 1995 season 207-of-405 for 2,509 yards, 17 touchdowns and 18 interceptions. As a true freshman (1994), he threw for 1,565 yards, 11 touchdowns and 16 interceptions while completing 126-of-216 passes.

Bradley leaves the Dorados as one of the team’s top defensive players. The 6’0” 205-pound defensive specialist out of Western Carolina was hampered with injuries with the Dorados and appeared in 5 games with the Dorados. In the five games, Bradley tallied 16.5 tackles (3rd on the squad) with 11 solo and 11 assisted tackles. Bradley also had 5 pass deflections and 1 interception. He was the first assigned player to the Dorados roster in franchise history.

Pullen was coming off an impressive game against the Tulsa Talons. The offensive specialist from Waco and Stephen F. Austin St. returned the opening kickoff 49-yards for his af2 all-time leading 12th kickoff return for a touchdown. Pullen was a free agent acquisition that was added to the roster during the week prior to the game and the kickoff return was the first time he touched the ball in a Dorados uniform. He tallied 256 of the 332 all-purpose yards for the Dorados, including a game-high 81 receiving yards off of 7 receptions. Pullen had 2 second half touchdown receptions for the Dorados. He was added to the teamÂ’s suspension list due to personal reasons.

The Dorados face an important game this week, hosting Tulsa, as they seek to end a four game winless streak. Rio Grande Valley has been snake-bit in the previous four games, losing three of the contests within the gameÂ’s closing minute. The Dorados were trailing in their last contest in Tulsa 38-45 with less than 20-seconds remaining and fumbled a first-and-goal rush inches from the goal-line, which resulted in a Bjorn Barre fumble recovery and a 49-yard Tulsa touchdown. The 3-5 Dorados find themselves in fourth place of the National ConferenceÂ’s Southwest Division and falling away from the Sooner stateÂ’s Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz and Tulsa, who has each riding three-game winning streaks. The Dorados do have a game-in-hand over each of their division foes and still have three of their five remaining divisional contest at home. The Talons fly in with a 6-3 record and are coming off of a 62-49 win over the Wichita Stealth. They collected the victory without star receiver Mitch Allner, who has 22 receiving touchdowns. Allner was injured against the Dorados and has since been placed on the long-term injured reserve list.

The Talons come to the Dodge Arena this Saturday to battle the Dorados and individual tickets are currently on sale and may be purchased by stopping by the Dodge Arena offices (2600 N. 10th St. in Hidalgo, Tx) or contacting them by phone at 956-843-7825.
