Green Bay Blizzard News Release

The arena football2 office has announced that Green Bay Blizzard WR/DB Danny Donaldson has been named the league's week 11 US Army Ironman for his performance in the team's win last Friday against the Mahoning Valley Thunder. Donaldson is the first Blizzard player of 2007 to garner one of the league's weekly honors.

The Blizzard set a season high for points scored by putting up 54 against the Thunder at home on US Cellular Field at the Resch Center last week to defeat the Thunder 54-39. Of the 54 points scored in the Blizzard win, Donaldson contributed 30 of them by finding the endzone five times over the course of the night. Donaldson was quite through much of the first half; his first touchdown came on a 20-yard pass from Gino Guidugli with only 19 seconds remaining in the first half to give the Blizzard a 20-19 lead. Donaldson did not wait long in the second half to make his presence felt again, however, as he took the opening kick of the half back for his second touchdown of the night extending the Blizzard lead. Donaldson would wait until the opening minutes of the fourth quarter to strike again, this time on a 9-yard pass from Guidugli. Donaldson would go on to score two more touchdowns in the fourth, one coming on his second kick return for a touchdown and the other on a 22-yard dart from Guidugli.

Donaldson finished the night with four receptions for 58 yards and three touchdowns. Donaldson's most impressive stats of the night came on his kick returns, however. Donaldson returned six kicks for 223 yards and two touchdowns; both of Donaldson's kick returns for touchdowns came on returns of 57 yards.

Donaldson is the Blizzard's top receiver thus far in 2007 with 495 yards coming on 32 receptions and eleven touchdowns. Donaldson has also returned 27 kicks for 563 yards and two touchdowns this year. Donaldson's 1119 all purpose yards and 80 total points scored are each good enough for first on the team thus far. Donaldson's contributions on all sides of the ball this year have been vital in the team's success.

Head Coach Doug Lytle said, "It is great for [Donaldson] to have this honor." Lytle went on to say "[Donaldson] has come to work since day one and has gotten better everyday." Coach Lytle spoke for the team and the fans alike when he added, "We look forward to what he'll do in the future."
