Vero Beach Devil Rays News Release

The Vero Beach Dodgers survived six Dunedin baserunners in the final two innings to hang on for a 3-1 victory Monday night. Danny Muegge turned in five shutout innings to earn the win. Andy LaRoche went 2-5 with an RBI and a run scored to lead the offense. The Dodgers have Tuesday off, but return home Wednesday night at 7:00 PM against the St. Lucie Mets. Come out to the game for your chance to win one of 250 Don Newcombe bobble head dolls.

The Dodgers held a 1-0 lead for most of the game, as that first run came in the first inning. Tony Abreu led off the game with a walk and advanced to third on a Chin-lung Hu single. Andy LaRoche followed with a base hit to bring home Abreu.

Meanwhile, Muegge was terrific. He allowed just three singles in his five innings and didn't walk anyone. The Jays never had more than one baserunner in any inning against him. Hong-Chih Kuo turned in two scoreless relief innings in which he struck out four hitters, and Mark Alexander pitched out of a bases-loaded jam in the 8th.

The Dodgers put the game away in the top of the 8th. LaRoche led off with a strikeout, but reached first base on a wild pitch. Matt Kemp followed with a walk and Justin Ruggiano drilled a deep fly ball to center that advaned both baserunners. The Jays intentionally walked Cory Dunlap to load the bases. Edwin Bellorin then blooped a fly to left that was dropped by the fielder, allowing LaRoche to score and Kemp came home on a fielder's choice off the bat of Anthony Raglani.
