Vero Beach Devil Rays News Release
Matt Kemp hit his 10th home run of the season, but it wasn't enough for the Vero Beach Dodgers, who dropped an 8-3 decision to the Dunedin Blue Jays Saturday night. Joey Reiman drove in two runs for the Jays and Tim Whittaker added a 3-run homer as Dunedin even the series at a game each. The series continues Sunday afternoon at 1:00 PM. Chuck Tiffany will start for the Dodgers.
Vero Beach took the first lead in the first inning. Tony Abreu led off the game with a single. Anthony Raglani walked and then Andy LaRoche, third in the league in RBI, singled to right field to score Abreu. Dunedin starter Kurt Isenburg rebounded with a strikeout and a double play ball to end the inning. He earned the win to go to 5-3 on the year.
The Blue Jays wasted no time answering, however, Carlo Cota stroked a one-out single to left against Brian Pilkington, who fell to 0-4. Adam Lind singled and Eric Arnold followed with a run-scoring double. Robinzon Diaz grounded out to bring home another run and Joey Reiman delivered an RBI single to make it 3-1.
Kemp homered to right field in the sixth. Justin Ruggiano led off the seventh with a double and scored on an Edwin Bellorin ground out. The Dodgers had only one inning where more than one baserunner reached.
Dunedin's SS Manny Mayorson homered in the fourth, but the Jays blew it open in the fifth. Cota led off with a double, Diaz reached on an infield hit and Rieman singled home Cota. Whittaker followed with the decisive three-run blast. It was his first of the year in eight games played.
