(Vero Beach, FL) - The Vero Beach Dodgers scored four runs in the bottom of the 9th, but fell short in a 11-10 loss to the Lakeland Tigers at Holman Stadium Thursday night. Xavier Paul had four hits for the Dodgers and Blake DeWitt turned in his fifth straight multi-hit game. The series continues Friday night at 6:30 PM with fireworks to follow.

In a 3-hour, 39-minute ballgame the Dodgers held an early 2-0 lead thanks to Ryan Carter's third home run of the season in the second inning. Vero starter Julio Pimentel set down the first nine batters of the night, but fell apart in the fifth when Lakeland tagged him for six runs.

The Tigers added to their lead with one run in the 6th and two more in the 7th. They then plated two more runs in the 9th that turned out to be the difference. Every Tiger hitter scored and all but two had multiple hits. Nick McIntyre smacked their lone home run - a solo shot in the 6th inning.

The Dodgers trailed 11-6 entering the bottom of the ninth, but Tigers closer Kevin Whelan walked the first two hitters. Cole Bruce then singled to load the bases and Adolpho Gonzalez, in his first game of the season, lined a sacrifice fly to center. That knocked out Whelan, but Carter followed with a walk to re-load the bases against Danny Zell. David Nicholson lined a single to center to score two runs and advance Carter to third. Chris Westervelt pinch-hit with a deep sac fly to center to score the team's 10th run. The game ended when Jamie Hoffman drove a fly ball to the wall in left.
