Fort Myers Mighty Mussels News Release
FORT MYERS, Fla. - Randy Dobnak limited first place Palm Beach to one run in 5.1 innings as the Miracle slipped past the Cardinals, 2-1, on Sunday afternoon at Hammond Stadium to take three of four from the South Division leaders.
Dobnak (3-0), who entered the game with 17 straight scoreless innings to start the season, extended the streak to 21.2 innings before surrendering a run with two outs in the fifth. The right-hander walked two and fanned a season high six. His season ERA stands at 0.40 through four starts.
The Miracle broke a scoreless game in the fourth. With two outs and the bases empty, Trevor Larnach skied one to left field that Bryce Denton lost in the sun. Larnach hustled into second with a double and scored on a Jose Miranda base hit. Miranda finished 3-4.
Palm Beach tied the game in the top of the fifth on a two out single from Justin Toerner, but the Miracle responded in the bottom of the inning with an Aaron Whitefield sacrifice fly that proved to be the difference in the game.
Alex Phillips earned his fourth save with a 1-2-3 ninth. Phillips has started the season with nine straight appearances without surrendering an earned run (13.2 innings).
The Miracle turned nine double plays in the series and held the Cardinals to a .206 batting average (7-34) with runners in scoring position.
After a league wide off day on Monday, the Miracle continue their homestand on Tuesday night with the first of three games against the Clearwater Threshers, Class-A Advanced affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies.
