Madison Capitols News Release
MUSKEGON, MI - The Madison Capitols dropped a 2-1 decision to the Muskegon Lumberjacks at L.C. Walker Arena on Saturday night.
Madison (17-18-1-2) is tied for seventh place in the Eastern Conference with 37 points. Muskegon (20-17-1-1) is tied for second place in the Eastern Conference with 42 points.
Center Anthony Del Gaizo doubled Muskegon's lead to 2-0 at 5:13 of the third period. Left wing Will Schlagenhauf passed the puck from the end red line to Del Gaizo in the high slot. Del Gaizo's snapped a shot over goaltender Dryden McKay's shoulder for his 30th goal of the year.
Del Gaizo picked up a power play goal at 3:03 of the second period to give Muskegon a 1-0 lead. Del Gaizo's initial shot on the right doorstep was stopped by McKay. Del Gaizo picked up his own rebound and circled into the right face-off circle before snapping a wrist shot between the netminder's legs for his 29th goal of the season.
Center Ludwig Stenlund scored his eighth goal of the season at the eight-minute mark of the third period. Skating on the power play, defenseman Jared Kucharek passed the puck to Stenlund just outside of the hashmarks. Stenlund one-timed the puck over the right shoulder of goaltender Keegan Karki to bring the score to 2-1.
McKay (16-13-1-2) took his 13th loss of the season with 25 saves on 27 shots. Karki (14-10-0-0) earned his 14th win of the season as he stopped 33-of-34 shots.
Madison went 1-for-6 on the power play. Muskegon was 1-for-4 with the man advantage.
Notables: Madison outshot Muskegon, 19-8 in the third period...Center Ludwig Stenlund has four points (2-2=4) in his last four games.
