
Lancers Get Past Stampede in Shootout, 3-2

Sioux Falls, SD -- The Lancers traveled to Sioux Falls to face the Stampede Saturday night. Both teams are tied with 51 points in the USHL Western Conference. This was the fourth time these two teams have faced off this season. The Lancers have taken a 2-1 series lead on Sioux Falls. Omaha called on Zach Driscoll to play between the pipes. Driscoll stopped 33 of 35 shots he faced Friday against the Dubuque Fighting Saints. Driscoll is also ranked second among all goalies in the USHL.
In the first period, Omaha capitalized on the power play. Brendan Furry snapped the puck past Mikhail Berdin. Sioux Falls answered back with a goal from Adam Dawe. The goal was under review as Driscoll and the net was taken down during the play. After the review, the officials called it a good goal to bring the score 1-1.
After a scoreless second period, Brendan Furry found the back of the net again in the third period. Sioux Falls pulled Berdin for the extra attacker with 1:45 left to play. Sioux Falls capitalized with the extra attacker to force over time.
In the extra frame, the Christian O'Neill took the puck up the middle and took a shot at Berdin. The puck then went airborne and was put into the net by Jack Randl. The play was under review. After the official review, the goal was called no good and a shootout was forced.
In the shootout, Filip Suchy scored first on Mikhail Berdin. The next two Lancers and Stampede players were stopped. The third shooter for Sioux Falls, Kevin Conley, stepped up and scored on Driscoll to continue the shootout. Nick Perbix stepped up and scored on Berdin. Then Artem Ivanyuzhenkov came up and was stopped by Driscoll. The Lancers topped the Stampede, 3-2.
Zach Driscoll stopped 25 of the 27 shots he faced.
Omaha improves to 25-10-2-0 with 53 points and a spot at second in the Western Conference. The Lancers sit at second place in the USHL. With a win tomorrow, the Lancers will top the USHL.
