Florence Y'alls News Release

Florence, KY - In the top of the fourth inning it was the Southern Illinois Miners who struck first. With one out and runners on first and second Luke Mangieri drilled a 3-run shot over the right field wall off of Christian Tripp giving the Miners a 3-0 lead.

Moving to the bottom half it was the Y'alls turn. Harrison DiNicola got his team on the board, lifting a 2-run blast into the Florence bullpen, off of Miners' starter Chase Cunningham, making it a 3-2 affair.

In the sixth the miners added on. With Yoshi Hamazaki on the mound, Jarrod Watkins drove in a run with a hard single up the middle plating Gianfranco Wawoe and extending the Miners lead to two.

Just like in the fourth the Y'alls would respond. This time it was Trevor Craport. The third basemen facing reliver Joey Pulido, walloped a 2-run bomb into the night tying the game up at four.

The score would hold up through the bottom half of the ninth, with one away Jordan Brower doubled, Jackson Prichard was intentionally walked and Joe Lytle was hit by a pitch facing lefty Jake Allen. Allen was pulled and RHP Kyle Hinton entered to face pinch hitter Jose Brizuela. After a long at bat Brizuela grounded into a 4-6-3 double play ending the inning and forcing the game into extras.

In the tenth, Evy Ruibal was sensational, with the free runner on second, Ruibal punched out Nolan Earley, got Wawoe to pop out and retired Luke Mangieri on a nice sliding play by second basemen Harrison DiNicola. Ruibal went two innings in relief and did not allow a run, punching out three and not allowing a hit.

Then it was Florence's turn. With Brizuela on second as the free runner. The Y'alls loaded the bases and gave Chad Sedio a chance with one out. Sedio drove one deep into left and brought in Brizuela to give Florence their third victory of the 2021 campaign.

Christian Tripp against the Miners on Saturday night went five frames, allowing four hits, striking out three while giving up three earned runs.

In relief Yoshi Hamazaki (making his Frontier League debut) was superb going three innings, allowing just three hits and one run.

Evy Ruibal earned the win, his first of the season.

Florence and Southern Illinois are back at it tomorrow night for game two of this series. First pitch at 5:30 from Y'alls Ballpark in Florence.
