Dillas, Roadrunners Square-Off Tonight In Game-One Of Critical Four-Game Series

August 24, 2010 - United League Baseball (ULB)
Amarillo Dillas News Release

AMARILLO, TX- The Amarillo Dillas welcome the Edinburg Roadrunners tonight to begin a critical four-game series that very well could determine the top seed for post season play. The Dillas (49-35) and Roadrunners (48-34) enter tonight's contest dead-even in the standings with Edinburg having played two less games overall. This four-game series will conclude the Dillas regular season home schedule. All games scheduled for 7:05pm start.

As history has proven so many times that the best team isn't always the crowned champion so much as it the team who is playing best at the right time. Ironically the Dillas are a prime example of that statement looking back to last year's run at a second consecutive United League title when clearly the San Angelo Colts were the best team holding onto a 10 game lead going into the final weeks of the season only to have the team playing best win the championship.

As it stands today, neither the Roadrunners nor the Dillas can boast definitively they are currently the best team or even playing the best for that matter but for all intents and purposes, Amarillo has been the better club over the last stretch of games having won 7 out of their last 10, while the Roadrunners on the other hand have played five-hundred baseball during that same span. Interestingly enough, the teams who have been playing the best over the last five weeks are the third and fourth place teams in the Laredo and Rio Grande Valley, respectively.

With that having been said, one would like to think the playoff picture should be crystal clear come Friday but it really only becomes less clear with the surging Broncos and WhiteWings because, despite of what seed you enter the post season the team who is playing best can beat the better team in a short best-of-three series that begins on the road - advantage team playing best.
