
Dillas Offense Still In Force With 14-8 Win Over Colts

AMARILLO, TX - The Amarillo Dillas followed a 15 runs, 16 hit performance against the Laredo Broncos with a 14 run, 15 hit performance against the San Angelo Colts Monday night in a 14-8 win at the Amarillo National Bank Dilla Villa in front of 3,217 fans.
Dillas starter Chris Holguin (2-0) got the win, allowing six runs in six plus innings, striking out five along the way. Colts starter Aaron Cunningham (4-5) went only two plus innings and allowed seven runs off nine hits for the loss. Amarillo reliever Turner Brasher went the final three innings for his first save. Dillas catcher Sam Palace went 4-5 in the effort with an RBI and a run to go along with a two doubles.
Amarillo wasted no time getting on the board as they started the game with six-straight singles Adam De La Garza, Joaquin Rodriguez, Carlos Figueroa, Daryl Jones, Andrew Wong and Stephen Douglas. With four runs already scoring, Cruz drew a walk to load the bases, while Rob Recuenco hit a sacrifice fly to score Wong from third for a 5-0 lead.
In the third, Douglas hit a leadoff triple and scored on Cruz's 11th homer of the season to extend the lead and chase Cunningham. Sam Palace hit a one-out double, went to third on a groundout and scored on an error to extend the lead to eight. Amarillo added four more runs in the fourth for a 12-0 advantage.
San Angelo got on the board in the fifth as David Cardona doubled and scored on an Issac Garcia homerun, while Landon Camp hit a solo homer in the sixth for a 12-3 deficit.
Amarillo added two more runs in the sixth while the Colts added four in the seventh on a three-run homerun by Ronnie Gaines and an RBI double by Camp for a 14-7 score.
San Angelo got a ninth inning run, but Brasher shut the door for a 14-8 Amarillo win.
With the win, the Dillas improve to 34-23 while the Colts fall to 30-27. Tuesday, Amarillo will take on San Angelo for the second game of a four-game set at 7:05pm with the Aqua One Pre-Game Show set to begin at 6:50pm on AudioSportsOnline via www.myamarillodillas.com. Game time is tentative and is subject to blackout.
