San Angelo Colts News Release

San Angelo, TX - The San Angelo Colts added left-handed pitcher Brett Bukvich to the roster today to bolster their bullpen. Bukvich's addition gives the Colts a second lefthander out of the pen to go along with the recently acquired Logan Williamson.

Bukvich, a 6'4" 238-pounder from Brandon, MS, joins the Colts from the Florida Marlins organization where he pitched in 2009. An 18th-round selection in last season's draft, Bukvich made three appearances between the Gulf Coast Marlins and the Jamestown Jammers (New York-Penn League) allowing one unearned run in 3.1 innings pitched. He allowed three hits, three walks, and struck out three during his time in the Florida organization.

Before the Marlins, Bukvich was a four-year letterwinner for the University of Mississippi where he appeared in 66 games, 46 as a starter. He compiled a 24-13 career record with the Rebels garnering a 4.50 ERA.

His older brother is Ryan Bukvich, a former relief pitcher for the Texas Rangers in 2005. Ryan has also pitched at the major-elague level for the Royals, White Sox, and Orioles, making 97 relief appearances and compiling a career 3-0 record with a 6.16 ERA. He currently pitches for the Newark Bears of the Atlantic League.

To make room for Bukvich, the Colts placed reliever Matt Chutchian on the inactive list. In his rookie campaign, Chutchain was 3-0 with a 5.14 ERA in 21 appearances.

The Colts are on the road for a four-game series with second-place Amarillo beginning Monday night at 7:05. Southpaw Aaron Cunningham (4-4, 4.83 ERA) will go for the Colts against Richard Jessup (2-3, 7.29 ERA) of the Dillas The broadcast of the game begins at 6:50 with the Kemps' Pregame Show and can be heard on 1260 KKSA. The team returns home on Friday, July 30 to begin an eight-game home-stand, starting with the first of a four-game series against Edinburg. First-pitch is scheduled for 7:05. July 30 will also be the night of the Fan Fly Away presented by Midland International Airport. A lucky fan will win a pair of tickets to Las Vegas, while the runner-up will win a pair of tickets to Denver.
