2009 Team MVP Septimo Returns to WhiteWings

Harlingen - United League Baseball's Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings announced today that second baseman Agustin Septimo (6-1, 160), who was the WhiteWings Team Most Valuable Player lat year, is returning to the team after his team in Mexico was eliminated from the playoffs.

The WhiteWings also activated right-hander pitcher Miguel Matos (6-4, 190) and released left-handed pitchers Justin Phillips (6-3, 220, Harding University) and Carlos Artiles (5-11, 165) in addition to right-hander pitcher Deybi de la Cruz (5-11, 155).

Septimo was the only WhiteWings player to play in (and start) all 80 games last season, batting .317 with 12 doubles, seven triples, two home runs and 25 RBI. He was among the league leaders in hits (106), runs scored (64) and stolen bases (22).

Matos missed one start with a sore elbow. He is 2-3 with a 5.78 ERA in 12 games (four starts).

Phillips gave up three runs on three hits and two walks in three innings of his start on Saturday.

In two appearances, Artiles gave up three runs on five hits and four walks in two and two-thirds innings.
