San Angelo Colts News Release
Amarillo, TX---The two sluggers went at it again on Monday Night count down. The Colts and Dillas have already gone mono y mono in some slugfests this season and Monday night's match was no different. In fact it resembled more of a heavy weight fight between San Angelo and Amarillo. It was the Dillas who came out swinging early in round one winning 14-8 on a near unanimous decision.
Amarillo wasted no time as the Colts took a pounding in the first, jabbing the Colts for six straight hits to start, that led to five runs and it was 5-0 Amarillo. The Dillas weren't even close to done, pounding the Colts as Amarillo went for the early knockout as the Colts took a hard shot from Alberto Cruz (11) whose two-run shot highlighted a three run third and it was already 8-0 Amarillo. The Dillas inflicted more damage in the fourth hitting the Colts four more times and Amarillo lead by a dozen 12-0.
San Angelo had a small flurry in the fifth scoring a pair on an Isaac Garcia (2) two-run homer to make it 12-2. The Colts would get off another big shot when Landon Camp (10) landed a bomb, his fourth straight game with a homerun, to make it 12-3. In the bottom of that inning Amarillo would get two more runs to make it 14-4 after six. With the Dillas way ahead on the scorecard the Colts would stay on their feet getting four in the seventh, three on a Ronnie Gaines (7) punch that made it 14-7. With the Colts way behind on the judges' cards they made one last run in the ninth. San Angelo would run out of steam though as the bell sounded in the final round with a majority decision that went to the Dillas by a final of 14-8. Colts starter Aaron Cunningham went just two plus innings allowing seven runs on nine hits.
On Tuesday the Colts take on Amarillo in game two of this four game series. San Angelo will send righty Brian Henschel (4-5, 5.87) against right-hander Ralph Roberts (4-3, 7.10 ERA) for the Dillas. It all begins with the Kemps pre-game show beginning at 6:50 with the first pitch set for 7:05 on 1260 KKSA.
