Dillas In Postseason With Win

AMARILLO, TX - Amarillo Dillas designated hitter Carlos Figueroa had a huge day on Sunday night, going 4-4 with three doubles, an RBI and two runs scored as the Dillas defeated the San Angelo Colts 9-5 in front of 1,868 fans at the Amarillo National Bank Dilla Villa. The win clinched a berth in the United League Baseball Playoffs for the Dillas.

Dillas reliever Tyler Pearson (5-1) got the win, going two innings and giving up only one run off one hit while striking out two. Colts reliever Caleb Rodgers (1-3) got the loss, allowing two runs on three hits in an inning and a third of work.

In the third, the Colts took an early lead as Butch Ballez reached on a fielder's choice and scored on a Jason Landreth two-run homerun for a 2-0 lead.

The Dillas took the lead in the bottom of the third as Joaquin Rodriguez and Figueroa led off with walks, while Julio Martinez hit an RBI single to score Rodriguez. Stephen Douglas walked to load the bases while Sam Palace was hit by a pitch to score Figueroa to tie the game. Rob Recuenco doubled to center field to score Martinez and Douglas while a subsequent double from Kevin Butler scored Recuenco for a 5-2 Amarillo advantage.

San Angelo got within a run in the sixth as Landon Camp reached on an infield single and went to second on a Blake Shaffer walk. After a Stephen Yoo walk loaded the bases, Ronnie Gaines singled on the infield to score Camp. Shaffer would later score on a wild pitch for a 5-4 score.

In the eighth, Josh Collazo led off with a double, went to third on a wild pitch and scored on a Shaffer groundout for a 5-5 tie game.

In the bottom of the eighth, Jermel Lomack hit a one-out single and went to third on an Adam De La Garza single. Rodriguez and Figueroa each followed with RBI singles. Rodriguez would score on a wild pitch while Figueroa crossed home on a Douglas RBI single.

Geronimo finished off the Colts in the ninth for a 9-5 victory to send the Dillas to the playoffs.

With the win, the Dillas improve to 49-35 while the Colts fall to 40-44. Tuesday, Amarillo will take on the first-place Edinburg Roadrunners for the opening game of a four-game set at 7:05pm with the Aqua One Pre-Game Show set to begin at 6:50pm on AudioSportsOnline via www.myamarillodillas.com. Game time is tentative and is subject to blackout.
