Colts Downed by Dillas

San Angelo Colts News Release


Amarillo, TX---With the Colts taking two of the first three games, San Angelo looked to win the series in game four the final of their set against the Dillas. It was not meant to be as the Colts were done in by a four run bottom of the eighth and lose 9-5. The Colts split the series at Amarillo for the second time in just over a week.

The Colts struck first with a thunderous two-run blow from Jason Landreth (10) in the top of the third to give the Colts an early 2-0 lead. San Angelo gave it back quickly as the Dillas scored five times in the bottom of the third starting with an RBI single by Julio Martinez. Sam Palace was then hit by a pitch with the bases load and had to leave the game which drove in the second run to tie it 2-2. An RBI double by Rob Recuenco then drove in two and the next batter Kevin Butler followed with a double of his own to drive in a run to make it 5-2 Amarillo.

In the top of the sixth the Colts would pull to within one on a Ronnie Gaines RBI single and a wild pitch scored the second run and the Colts were down just one, 5-4. The Colts would tie it in the top of the eighth after Josh Collazo leadoff with a double he would come around to score on an RBI groundout by Blake Schaffer and it was even at 5-5. San Angelo would give it back again in the bottom of the eighth on a passed ball and RBI singles by Joaquin Rodriguez, Carlos Figueroa, and Stephen Douglas to take a four run lead at 9-5 as ten men came to the plate. That would be the final as Dillas closer Ramon Geronimo finished it off in the ninth.

The Colts have Monday off but return to action on Tuesday to finish the final seven games of the season at home beginning with the first of four against the Coastal Bend Thunder. In game one San Angelo sends out righty Ezequiel Astacio (6-7, 5.66) against southpaw Doug Brandt (3-7, 5.12) for Coastal Bend. The action begins on Tuesday with the first pitch set for 7:05.
