San Angelo Colts News Release

Amarillo, TX---With the Colts coming into game three one game out of the fourth and final playoff spot they were in much need of a victory. After losing both a one run game and their catcher the night before the Colts would begin the day with a new catcher and deep desire for a victory. San Angelo would get a great pitching performance, a lot of offense, and a scare in the ninth in a 10-8 victory.

The Colts were off to a great start with three in the first on three straight doubles by Jason Landreth, Jason Crosland and Alex Fernandez, which all drove in solo runs to take a 3-0 lead before the Dillas could bat. Amarillo scored solo runs in the bottom of the first and second on an RBI double by Carlos Figueroa and an RBI single by Jermel Lomack to make it a one run game at 3-2. San Angelo answered with two of their own in the top of the third on a Landon Camp (21) two-run shot to give the Colts a three run lead again at 5-2. Amarillo scored a run in the bottom of the fourth on a sac fly by Jermel Lomack to make it a 5-3 game.

San Angelo would add a pair in the top of the sixth on an RBI ground out by Ronnie Gaines and a Butch Ballez RBI single to give the Colts a 7-3 lead. Amarillo battled back though getting three in the bottom of the inning on a wild pitch and an RBI single by Julio Martinez that drove in two that made it a one run game again at 7-6. San Angelo put up some insurance scoring two in the seventh on RBI singles from new catcher Stephen Yoo and Ronnie Gaines to go up 9-6. The Colts would add another in the top of the ninth; it was Yoo again, who had his second straight RBI single and third hit of the night, as he drove in a run on a single to make it 10-6.

It was scary in the ninth however as Brian Henschel came on to try to get his fifth complete game of the year. After getting the first batter he allowed a single and double and left with runners on second and third with only one away. Colts closer Chace Vacek came on and walked the first batter he faced and had the bases loaded with the tying run at the plate. After Vacek struck out Rob Recuenco for the second out, pinch hitter Andrew Wong hit a ball down the left field line that drove in two but Alberto Cruz, who was on first, tried to go all the way to third and was gunned down by Colts left fielder Alex Fernandez for the final out as the Colts held on for the 10-8 win. Brian Henschel went eight and one-third throwing 138 pitches to pick up the win (6). Chace Vacek (3) picked up the save and the newest member of the Colts Stephen Yoo went three for four with two RBIs which turned out to be the difference in the game.

The Colts and Dillas play game four the final game of the series as the Colts look to take three of four. San Angelo sends out lefty Brett Bukvich (0-2, 3.93) against fellow southpaw Ronald Lowe (6-4, 4.25) for Amarillo. Earlier start on Sunday with the first pitch set for 6:05. Catch all the action beginning with the Kemps pre-game show at 5:50 on 1260 KKSA.
