Broncos Take Series from Roadrunners

EDINBURG, Texas---The Edinburg Roadrunners dropped three out of four games to the Laredo Broncos after a 15-6 loss Sunday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.

With the loss, Edinburg falls into a first place tie with the Amarillo Dillas, who defeated San Angelo Sunday night.

The Broncos (44-40) got on the board against Eric Montoya (9-5) in the top of the first. Back-to-back singles by Jason Diaz and Maiko Loyola put runners on for Jose Canseco who hit a two-run double allowing both Diaz and Loyola to score giving Laredo the 2-0 lead.

Jonel Pacheco extended the lead for Laredo with a three-run home run in the top of the second inning that made it 5-0.

The Roadrunners (48-34) got on the board in the bottom of the third against Juan Peralta (9-2). Eddie Wilson walked with one out and then moved to third after Wilmer Pino doubled to deep center field. Felix Molina then hit a two-run single to right field allowing Wilson and Pino to score making it 5-2 Laredo.

With two outs in the bottom of the fifth, Molina reached on an infield single and then moved to second after a balk. After Nelson Teilon walked, Ambiorix Concepcion hit an RBI single to center allowing Molina to score cutting the Broncos lead 5-3.

Laredo sent 11 batters to the plate in the top of the sixth and scored seven runs on eight hits. The inning was highlighted by a two-run home run by Canseco that made it 12-3.

In the bottom of the seventh, Pino led off with a walk and then Molina hit his sixth home run of the season making the score 12-5 in favor of the Broncos.

Carlos Arroyo added to the Broncos lead with a three-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to extend the lead 15-5.

The Roadrunners added a run in the bottom of the eighth when Molina, who went five-for-five with four RBI, hit an RBI to left field allowing Matlock to score making it a 15-6 Broncos lead.

Reyes Dorado pitched a scoreless ninth to give Laredo the 15-6 victory.

The Roadrunners have an off day on Monday but will head to Amarillo for a critical four-game series with the Dillas starting Tuesday night at the Amarillo National Bank Dilla Villa. Mark DiBernardo is expected to open the series for Edinburg with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
