Dillas Fall In Rough Game 14-7

AMARILLO, TX - The Amarillo Dillas tried their best to come back against the Edinburg Roadrunners, but Dillas fielding mistakes and walks cost them as they fell to the Roadrunners 14-7 on Thursday night in front of 3,171 fans at the Amarillo National Bank Dilla Villa.

Dillas reliever Frank Corolla (0-2) got the loss, as he gave up three runs in the seventh to the Roadrunners. Edinburg reliever Ricardo Serrano (2-1) got the win, despite allowing the Dillas to take the lead in the sixth.

Starting pitchers Ryan Mitchell and Eric Montoya kept each team off the scoreboard until the fifth inning. Edinburg's Alexis Hernandez, Wilmer Pino and Felix Molina all singled to load the bases, while Wilson Batista drew a walk and Pino scored on a pass ball for a two-run Roadrunners lead. They added three more in the sixth 6on a RBI singles by Molina and Batista and two bases loaded walks for a 6-0 lead.

Amarillo responded in a big way in the bottom of the sixth as Joaquin Rodriguez led off with a double, followed by walks to Carlos Figueroa and Daryl Jones to load the bases. Stephen Douglas hit a two-RBI single followed by Cruz hitting a 1-0 pitch over the left-center field wall for a three-run bomb and a one-run game. Brian Bueno reached on an error to extend the inning while Jermel Lomack singled to put two on. An Adam De La Garza groundout moved both runners up while Rodriguez singled to score both runners for a 7-6 Dillas lead.

The Roadrunners responded in the seventh with three runs, two of which were bases loaded walks for a two-run lead. Five more Edinburg runs scored in the eighth with the help of two walks and an error for a 14-7 lead.

The Dillas couldn't get back on the board in the eighth or ninth to fall to the Roadrunners by seven.

With the loss, the Dillas fall to 27-20 while the Roadrunners improve to 30-14. Friday, Amarillo will take on first-place Edinburg for the final game of a four-game set at 7:05pm with the Aqua One Pre-Game Show set to begin at 6:50pm on AudioSportsOnline via www.myamarillodillas.com. Game time is tentative and is subject to blackout. The first 500 fans at the game will receive a free Dillas cap courtesy of Bank of America.
