Colts Use Long Ball to Beat WhiteWings

SAN ANGELO - Jason Crosland and Josh Collazo hit home runs as the San Angelo Colts beat the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings 6-3 Thursday at Foster Field.

The WhiteWings (19-26) struck against Aaron Cunningham (3-4) right away. With one out in the top of the first, Kevin Griffin doubled, Yeurys Tejeda singled and Luany Sanchez hit an RBI-single. One out later, Eric Gonzlaez hit an RBI-single to make it 2-0.

The Colts (23-24) responded against Luis Montano (3-4) in the bottom of the inning when Crosland came up with two on and one out and launched his 13th home run of the season to make it 3-2.

With Crosland at third and two outs in the bottom of the fourth, David Cardona doubled to deep left-center field to make it 4-2 Colts.

Collazo hit his sixth home run of the season, a two-run shot, in the bottom of the sixth to make it 6-2.

Griffin hit an RBI-single against Gorman Romero in the top of the seventh to make it 6-3.

The WhiteWings loaded the bases in the top of the eighth against Chace Vacek, but Joel Roa grounded out to end the inning.

Michael Hacker pitched a scoreless ninth for his ninth save.

The WhiteWings and Colts play game two of this four-game series on Friday at 7:05 p.m. Right-hander Anders Rosales (3-2) is expected to face right-hander Brian Henschel (3-4).
