Roadrunners Walk All Over Dillas

AMARILLO, Texas---The Edinburg Roadrunners took advantage of 11 walks and 4 errors to defeat the Amarillo Dillas 14-7 Thursday night at the Amarillo National Bank Dilla Villa.

The Roadrunners (30-14) broke the scoreless tie in the top of the fifth against Ryan Mitchell. Singles by Alexis Hernandez, Wilmer Pino and Felix Molina loaded the bases for Wilson Batista who was walked which allowed Hernandez to score from third. With the bases still loaded, a passed ball allowed Molina to score making it 2-0 Edinburg.

In the top of the sixth, Hernandez hit a one-out double then moved to third on an Osiel Flores single to left. Molina and Batista followed with a pair of two-out RBI singles that allowed Hernandez and Flores to score. After a walk to Ambiorix Concepcion loaded the bases, a walk to Robert Matlock allowed Molina to score from third. Carlos Hereaud then drove in another run with an RBI walk making it 6-0 Roadrunners.

Amarillo (27-20) answered back in the bottom of the sixth with a two-run single by Stephen Douglas that allowed Joaquin Rodriguez and Carlos Figueroa to score. With two runners on, Alberto Cruz hit his eighth home run of the season cutting the Roadrunner lead to one. Rodriguez capped the inning off with a two-run single giving the Dillas the 7-6 lead.

Edinburg responded in the top of the seventh against reliever Frank Corolla IV (0-3). Hernandez led off with a single then moved to second after a base hit by Pino. A fielding error by the Dillas defense allowed Molina to reach to load the bases. Another error allowed Hernandez to score tying the game at seven. Bases loaded walks to Concepcion and Hereaud allowed Pino and Molina to score giving the Roadrunners the 9-7 lead.

Melvin Perez started the top of the eighth with a single and then back-to-back walks to Flores and Pino loaded the bases. After one out, Batista hit an RBI single that allowed Perez to score from third. The fourth fielding error of the game for the Dillas allowed Flores and Pino to score. With runners at second and third, a sacrifice fly by Robert Matlock allowed Batista to score. Hereaud then capped off the inning with an RBI single driving in Concepcion and extending Edinburg's lead 14-7.

The Dillas would not get on the score board again as Ray Silva and Evan Cunningham pitched a scoreless eighth and ninth giving Edinburg the 14-7 victory.

Ricardo Serrano (2-1) picked up his second win of the season after pitching two innings in relief of Eric Montoya.

The Roadrunners and Dillas will play the final game of their four-game series Friday night at the Amarillo National Bank Dilla Villa. Wardell Starling (5-1) is expected to pitch for Edinburg with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
