Amarillo Dillas News Release
AMARILLO, TX - New Amarillo Dillas starting pitcher Brantley Jordan had a problem with receiving run support when he was with the San Angelo Colts. That was not an issue on Monday night as the Dillas supported Jordan in a 11-6 victory over the Rio Grande Valley White Wings at Harlingen Field in front of 1,021 fans.
Jordan (2-8) went six innings, gave up only two runs and eight hits while walking only one and striking out three. White Wings starter Kenny Evoniuk (1-3) went an out short of four innings and gave up five runs and four hits.
Rio Grande Valley scored first in the opening inning as Brian Nichols singled with the bases loaded to score two runs for a 2-0 lead.
Amarillo would come back in the fourth as Jonathan Reynoso led off with a walk and went to second on a Justin Wenger single. Carlos Figueroa singled to score Reynoso and sent Wenger to third. After Wenger scored on an error, Gary Schneidmiller singled and Jordan Ramos walked to load the bases. Brendon Hitchcock walked to bring home Figueroa, while Josh Ashton singled up the middle to score Schneidmiller and Ramos to put the Dillas up 5-2.
In the bottom of the fourth, the White Wings put runners on the corners with no outs, but Jordan struck out former Dilla Ericnardo Padilla and got Bub Bergstrom to ground into an inning-ending double play to keep the Dillas in the lead.
Wenger led off the fifth inning with his third hit as he doubled to right field. Figueroa singled to put runners on the corners and Danny Bravo grounded out to score the runner. With Figueroa on third, Schneidmiller singled and stole second to put two runners in scoring position. Ramos came up and hit a high chopping double to left field to score both runners which gave Amarillo a six-run lead. RBI by Reynoso and Figueroa in the sixth put Amarillo up 10-2.
In the seventh Miguel Peguero hit a two-run homerun to bring the deficit within six, but Amarillo scored again in the eighth. With two runners on, Bravo singled to score Wenger for an 11-4 lead.
Dillas reliever Nick Burger, who had been in since the seventh, allowed two runs but finished off the side in the ninth inning to preserve the 11-6 Amarillo victory.
With the win, the Dillas improve to 15-12 on the second-half of the season and 41-36 overall. Tuesday, the Dillas will take on the White Wings for the second game of a four-game series at 7:05 pm with Dillas Pre-Game set to begin at 6:50 pm on 1010 AM The Canyon and online via AudioSportsOnline.com.
