That list of Goldeyes attracting attention in the Northern League continues to grow.
Hitting the ball hard and often, slugger Juan Diaz was named today as the NL Player of the Week for July 13-19.
In eight games, Diaz batted .371 (13/35) with three home runs and 12 runs batted in. He also scored nine runs while posting .405 on-base and .686 slugging percentages for a mammoth 1.091 OPS.
For the year, Diaz is hitting .309 with a team-high 10 home runs while driving in 42 runs. He joins Dee Brown and Kevin West as position players to earn weekly league honours, while Wes Long (May) has also been player of the month.
On the mound, Ace Walker and Bear Bay have earned weekly league honours, while Walker (June) and Matt Davis (May) have been saluted as pitchers of the month.
Diaz and his teammates enjoyed an off-day today to participate in the annual Winnipeg Goldeyes Field of Dreams Golf Tournament up at Bel Acres. All will be in uniform and back in action Tuesday night when the Goldeyes open a six-game homestand with the first of three games against Kansas City.
