Phoenix Mercury News Release

PHOENIX - The three-time WNBA Champion Phoenix Mercury today announced that WNBA all-time leading scorer Diana Taurasi has been cleared to return to play and will be available for the team's next game, this Sunday against the Los Angeles Sparks at 3 p.m. at Phoenix Suns Arena. Taurasi suffered a fracture to her sternum in the Mercury's game at Connecticut on May 16 causing her to miss the last nine games.

Prior to the injury, Taurasi was averaging 15.8 points, 3.8 assists and 3.5 rebounds through the team's first four games of the season. Taurasi, who was recently named to her fifth Olympic team and will represent the United States in Tokyo this July, returns to the court just six points shy of becoming the only player in WNBA history to 9,000 career points.

With Taurasi returning to the court, the Mercury has released Haley Gorecki, who signed a hardship roster contract with the team on May 27.

Tickets to the Mercury's next home game at Phoenix Suns Arena, a WNBA Commissioners Cup matchup against the Los Angeles Sparks, on Sunday, June 27, can be purchased by calling 602.252.WNBA or by visiting PhoenixMercury.com.
