El Paso Diablos News Release
SIOUX FALLS, SD- The suddenly hot Diablos could not muster a run against Sioux Falls starter Rod Scurry, who shut out El Paso on eight hits in eight innings of work in a 11-0 Pheasants win in the finale of a three-game series.
Scurry (3-1) pitched his best game of the season, striking out five and walking just one, and allowing two runners to reach third base over his 112 pitches during the afternoon. The Diablos were not able to record an extra base hit and were shut out for just the third time all season.
For the second straight game, El Paso's starter struggled in the opening innings. Edgar Garcia (0-2) surrendered five runs in the first two frames and ended his day giving up six runs (four earned) in five innings with a walk and just two strikeouts.
Six different Pheasants had RBI's, with first baseman Cesar Nicolas and right fielder Mark Shorey leading the way with three apiece. A pair of two-run doubles by Nicolas and Shorey in the eighth inning off reliever Kyle Kreich finished off the blowout victory for Sioux Falls.
The win salvaged the series for the Pheasants, who had lost the first two games, and dropped the Diablos to 10-28 on the year.
El Paso will now travel to Sioux City, Iowa to take on the Explorers on Friday evening in game one of a three-game series.
