Wichita Wingnuts News Release

WICHITA, KS- The Wichita Wingnuts (30-9) defeated the St. Paul Saints (17-20) 7-3 at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium on Thursday night.

Wichita's offense scored four runs in the bottom of the second and never looked back, while Ryan Hinson worked six and two-thirds strong innings to pick up his sixth win of the year against one loss.

Steve Carrillo beat out an infield single leading off the second and advanced to second base on Justin Tellam's full count walk. After Jared McDonald laid down a sacrifice bunt, Mike Conroy singled to center to drive in Carrillo. Conroy then stole second base. Tellam scored from third on Ryan Khoury's sacrifice fly. Jake Kahaulelio singled down the right field line to bring in Conroy with the Wingunts' third run. John Rodriguez singled to left, sending Kahaulelio to third. Kahaulelio scored the final run of the inning on a passed ball.

In the third, David Peralta singled to right leading off and went to third two batters later on a single down the right field line from Tellam. McDonald lined a single to center on a 1-2 count to make it 5-0 Wichita. Later in the inning, Kahaulelio drew a two-out, bases loaded walk to force home Tellam from third base.

Jose Hernandez doubled down the right field line to lead off the top of the fourth and eventually came home on a passed ball. Hernandez cracked a two-run homer to left-center with two outs in the fifth to bring the Saints within three, but Hinson and the Wingnuts' bullpen held St. Paul off the board for the rest of the night.

Hinson allowed three runs, two earned, on nine hits. Hinson walked none, struck out four, and improved to 12-1 lifetime at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium.

Nick Walters relieved Hinson with the tying run at the plate in the top of the seventh and escaped the jam when Khoury made a barehanded play on Jim Rapaport's groundball to shortstop to record the final out. Walters went on to strike out the side in order in the top of the eighth.

Rodriguez singled home the Wingnuts' seventh run in the bottom of the eighth. Matt Nevarez recorded a scoreless inning in the ninth to finish off the win.

Alberto Rolon started for St. Paul and took the loss, allowing six runs, five earned, on 10 hits in five and two-thirds innings. Rolon walked five and struck out two.
