Longest Saints Homestand Has Patriotic Feel

ST. PAUL, MN (June 28, 2012) - The St. Paul Saints are encouraging everyone to spend the holiday weekend at "The Cabin" and enjoy a fireworks show like no other. No holiday week would be complete without tons of food. It's a time to reminisce about great memories from years past, but when it's all over you will need to work off the extra holiday pounds with a Running of the Pigs, "an omnivorous domesticated cloven-hooved vertebrate that defecates in the same place it consumes."

The homestand kicks off with a BANG, literally. The Saints welcome in the Lincoln Saltdogs on Tuesday, July 3. The Saints will continue a game called because of curfew in Lincoln from June 20. That game will begin at 6:00 p.m. and will start in the top of the seventh with the Saints leading 8-2. The regularly scheduled game will be a nine inning contest beginning approximately 20-25 minutes at the conclusion of the continued game. It is one of the more special nights of the season as we honor Military Moms. Mom does so much for all of us and this is our way of bringing to light all she does for the family when their children are serving in the military at home or overseas. It is a night you won't want to miss. Following the game join us for the Independence Day Celebration Fireworks Super Show presented by Cub Foods and Snapple. It is one of the longest and most spectacular shows in the Twin Cities.

Before you go out and take in your second straight day of Independence Day Fireworks stop out at the ballpark for the 3:05 p.m. game against the Saltdogs on July 4. It's the pre-party before the party with our All You Can Eat extravaganza. For just $10 and the purchase of any Saints ticket a fan can get an All You Can Eat wristband that entitles them to as much food as they can eat at select concession stands. Also, bring your dog to the park with our second Dog Day of the season. There will be plenty for the four-legged hounds to enjoy with contests throughout the game. Find out which dog looks most like their owner or which one has the most Saints spirit. If all that isn't enough then come out early and enjoy the Craziest Tailgate Party of the Year on Walser Wednesday.

It's a big season for the Saints as they celebrate their 20th season and our second celebration of the year takes place on Thursday July 5 at 7:05 p.m. with a Head Full of Memories as the first 1,500 fans receive a Conehead Giveaway presented by Xfinity. Bask in 20 incredible seasons of Saints baseball from your favorite moments on and off the field. The Saints will don their 1993 uniforms and share the spotlight with two other incredible entities celebrating their 20-year Anniversaries: the hilarious comedy The Coneheads and the delectable tastes of Ginkgo Coffeehouse, a proud Saints partner. The Saints promotions have often been called out of this world, but on this night it will truly be the case as they bring back an all-time classic promotion from 1993 as Saints players were introduced pre-game wearing Coneheads. The Saint Paul Saints and GINKGO are both celebrating 20 years in business as well as 20 years of being partners. In most recent years a visit to the GINKGO stand, featuring smoothies, great chocolate chip cookies and sandwiches, has become part of the Saints experience for countless fans at Midway.

Ginkgo Coffeehouse is one of the longest running independently owned coffeehouses in the Twin Cities. Ginkgo Coffeehouse has been serving organic coffee and homemade food long before it was trendy. Founded by Midway resident Kathy Sundberg, the original coffeehouse on the corner of Snelling and Minnehaha still thrives to this day, featuring a full menu, catering and live acoustic music, from top local and national touring artists. Over the last couple decades, they have expanded to several locations around St. Paul and have been a proud partner with the St. Paul Saints since their first season.

Ginkgo Coffehouse has a red tent near third base, offering whole fruit and coffee smoothies, a complete espresso and coffee bar, iced and hot tea, homemade cookies, grilled sandwiches and cold drinks at every Saints game.

They also sell boxes of homemade cookies in the stands, a popular item, served up in Chinese food take-out boxes. At some games, they take out our coffee backpack - a tank of iced mocha or hot coffee that is dispensed for customers in the stands on demand! Ginkgo Coffeehouse also offers gluten free cookies, along with boxes of chocolate chip, and individual molasses or monster cookies. At each game, fans can stop by to answer the QUESTION OF THE GAME. A winner is drawn from the correct answers. The whimsical prize is selected from our retail sales area at the Snelling Ave store and is related to the game's theme. For example, the prize for the game featuring pirates was a box of pirate bandaids and set of pirate figures. For half of the games throughout the season, fans are selected to take part in the games sponsored by GINKGO. The winner receives a gift card to the GINKGO coffeehouse on Snelling Avenue. The final game of the four game series against the Saltdogs is on Friday, July 6 at 7:05 p.m. In winter time where do all Minnesotan's go: to the cabin. In the summertime they all go to.the cabin. So the Saints have decided to rename their ballpark "The Cabin" for the weekend and invite everyone to come out and enjoy their holiday weekend at the only cabin that has water (hot tub), a boat (S.S. Porkchop), a gorgeous sunlight room (Sunroom Suite), tasty treats (all our fine concession food), outdoor activities (baseball) AND you don't have to lift a finger. The first day at The Cabin is all about getting the family together, packing the bags, hitching up the boat and heading to your favorite spot by the lake. Also, enjoy the second fireworks show of the week with our Friday Night Fireworks presented by Xcel Energy.

The Sioux City Explorers come to town for a four game series beginning on Saturday night, July 7 at 7:05 p.m. with day two of the weekend at "The Cabin" presented by 5 Eyewitness News. It will start with some fishing and then as night falls it's time to enjoy a night under the stars as we sit around the campfire, telling ghost stories, roasting s'mores and singing songs. This is what heading to the cabin is all about. It's also Success Saturday presented by University of Wisconsin-River Falls, so while you're at "The Cabin" crack open a book or two just to keep your mind sharp.

The final day at "The Cabin" culminates with a 1:05 p.m. Sunday afternoon game on July 8 against the Explorers. It's the last day to lounge around the lake, catch some rays and get a nice farmer's tan. Don't worry you can leave the cabin as you found it, we'll take care of all the cleaning. Kids can run the bases and get autographs from the entire team on Family Sunday.

The weekend may be over, but the fun doesn't stop at Midway Stadium with a 7:05 p.m. game on Monday, July 9. He's got great hair, boyish good looks and Harlem Globetrotter style passes and that's why we honor the new savior of Minnesota. The Saints know when in Minnesota, do as the Spanish do, so join us for The Running of the Pigs: Rubio Fever Blue Neckerchief Giveaway. The first 1,500 fans will receive their very own blue neckerchief to wear during our Pose-Game Running of the Pigs around the warning track dirt. Just like the running of the bulls in Pamplona, the Saints will have a group of pigs racing around the warning track as fans try not to get "snouted" by the swine's. We cannot guarantee the neckerchief will help you outrun any pigs, but they will help you get the ladies. While you're at the ballpark enjoy one of Rubio's favorite cervezas during BUZ'N Buck Beer Night with $1 beers.

It's the final night of the eight game homestand with a 7:05 p.m. game on Tuesday, July 10 against the Explorers with a special tribute to the first African American to play in the American League, Larry Doby, on Larry Doby Passion for the Community Night. Elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1998, Doby was signed to the Cleveland Indians by Bill Veeck, Saints President Mike Veeck's father. Be sure to join us before the game as we unveil the new United States Postal Service stamp featuring Larry Doby, which will go on sale later this summer. His significance isn't just felt on this day with the Saints, but throughout the season with the Saints Larry Doby Passion for the Community program. In support of the effort, the Saints have donated 1,000 tickets to organizations serving children throughout the Twin Cities Metro Area. Also, fans will have an opportunity to win up to $77,777 on St. Croix Casino Big Money Tuesday.

Whether it's being outside at The Cabin, talking about great moments from the past, eating until your heart's content or loud, colorful objects in the air then the longest homestand of the season has exactly what you're looking for. If none of it appeals to you, then maybe you should really go to your cabin up North for an extended stay, but don't call us when you're doing your own cooking, cleaning and have to listen to the kids fight in the back seat of the car on the four hour drive.

Tickets for Saints home games are $5 for general admission, $8 for outfield reserved and $12 for infield reserved. Tickets purchased on the Day of the Game are an additional $1 per ticket. Children under the age of 14 and seniors 65 and older receive $1 off the admission price. Children under 2 that don't require a seat are free.
