El Paso Diablos News Release
Albenis Machado's run scoring single in the top of the ninth gave the Diablos a 4-3 victory over the Pensacola Pelicans on Tuesday night at Pelican Park.
The Diablos took the first lead in the top of the third. Walter Olmstead blasted a three-run homer to dead center field for the 3-0 advantage.
Pensacola fought back in the bottom of the fifth inning. Bo Williams led off the frame with a double off of Justin Knoff. Three batters later Ceasar Aranguren ripped a two-run bomb to left field getting Pensacola within one, at a 3-2 deficit.
Jesen Merle retired eleven El Paso Diablos in a row from the third through the seventh innings. Casey Clary broke up that stretch in the top of the seventh as he drew a walk. Jesen Merle would escape a two runner jam in that frame.
The Pelicans tied up the game in the bottom of the eighth. Cesar Aranguren led off the frame with a single through the left side. He would be moved to second base on a sacrifice bunt by Chris Reynolds. Aranguren took third on a passed ball by Casey Clary. Napoelan Calzado drove Aranguren home with an infield tieing up the contest at three.
El Paso would take the lead for good in the top of the ninth. Casey Clary drew a one-out walk off of Carl Schaeffer. Joel Izquierdo grounded out to third, which advanced Clary to second. Albenis Machado roped a single to right field and Clary slid in safely in the play at the plate for the 4-3 lead.
Ned Darley set down the side in the ninth inning for his 15th save of the season.
Jesen Merle threw seven full allowing three earned runs off of six hits with two walks and five strikeouts.
Josh Neitz started the game, but was pulled after just one inning due to an unknown injury.
Justin Knoff tossed four and a third innings in relief, allowing two earned runs off of two hits with two walks and two strikeouts.
Dustin Cameron (1-1) picks up the win as he threw one and a third innings allowing one unearned run off of two hits with no walks and one strikeout.
Carl Scheafer (6-2) takes the loss, he tossed an inning and two thirds allowing one earned run with one walk and one strikeout.
The Diablos will take on Pensacola for the third straight night at 5:35 PM (MST) at Pelican Park. Logan Williamson will face off against Andy Torres. The game will be broadcast live at www.diablos.com with Jon Barr on the call.
