HR: LN-Pichi Balet (5) The Lincoln Saltdogs got stellar pitching all around to keep the Saints' bats at bay and roll to a shutout win. Saltdogs starter Brian Campbell did most of the damage on the mound, allowing just one hit, the only hit the Saints managed all night, while striking out three through seven innings of work to improve to 1-0 on the year. Closer Matt Varner notched his 16th save of the season with a perfect ninth. LF Pichi Balet and 2B Josh Patton did the bulk of the damage at the plate for Lincoln. Balet hit his fifth homer in a 1-for-4 effort and Patton drove in the game's other run in a 1-for-3 effort.

The Fort Worth Cats won the first game of the doubleheader behind a good outing from starting pitcher Beau Hintz who tossed a three-hit shutout to improve to 2-2 on the year. Hintz struck out four and walked just two in seven innings of work to lead the way. He got support from his offense, which scored four times on six hits, led by RF Carlos Adolfo who was 2-for-3 with two RBI. LF Jordan Foster was also 2-for-3 for the Cats. Coastal Bend starter Derrick Van Dusen was the hard-luck loser. He allowed four runs, one earned on six hits in six innings of work to fall to 5-6 on the year.

Fort Worth 2, Coastal Bend 0 (Game 2 - 7 innings)

The Fort Worth Cats completed the sweep of Coastal Bend at home behind another shutout from its starting pitcher, this time Lee Gwaltney. Gwaltney allowed just two hits and struck out four in the complete game effort to improve to 4-2 this season. He did not walk a batter and faced just one above the minimum, inducing 14 groundouts and surrendering just two fly ball outs. Cats 3B Terence Green led the offense, going 3-for-3 with a run scored. CF Alan Moye was 1-for-2 and drove in a run in the win.

El Paso 4, Pensacola 3

The El Paso Diablos needed a run in the ninth to snatch a win from the Pensacola Pelicans on the road and improve to 12-7 in the second half. They got it, then closer Ned Darley sealed the deal with a scoreless ninth to record his 15th save of the season. El Paso 1B Walter Olmstead led the way at the plate, going 1-for-3 with a home run and three RBI. Pensacola 2B Cesar Aranguren led all hitters with a 3-for-4 effort that included a home run, two RBI and two runs scored in the losing effort.
