Myrtle Beach Pelicans News Release

KINSTON, N.C. - Travis Adair drove in a career-high four runs and scored two more, Robbie Ross spun five and two-thirds more scoreless innings in his third start of the season, and the Pelicans got back on track a night after seeing their six-game winning streak come to a halt with a 10-0 win over the Kinston Indians Friday night at Grainger Stadium.

The second night of this four-game series was Myrtle Beach's from almost the first pitch as the Pelicans jumped on K-Tribe starter Giovanni Soto. Two runs crossed for the visitors in the opening frame as Kinston committed two errors, and the Pelicans added on in the second when Adair crushed his second home run of the season, a one-out shot over the fence in right with Santiago Chirino aboard to make it 4-0 Myrtle Beach.

After chasing Soto (0-3) in the sixth, the Pelicans continued to add on with a run in that inning, one more in the seventh, and four in the eighth all charged to Kinston reliever Joey Mahalic. Adair drove in half of those eighth-inning runs when he ripped a one-out double to score Vinny DiFazio and Jared Prince. The Pelicans' designated hitter would later score Myrtle Beach's final run on the night on a Leury Garcia two-out single to make it 10-0.

Lefty starter Ross was superb for his fourth appearance of the year, keeping the Indians at bay while working around traffic. Ross (2-0) stranded Indians runners in the second, third, and sixth, striking out four while walking two. Kinston went 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position and did not put a baserunner aboard against the Pelicans bullpen as Johan Yan and Chad Bell worked a combined three and one-third innings, retiring the last ten men the Indians sent to the plate in order.

The win marked Myrtle Beach's tenth in 14 games in the 2011 season. Last year, in the Pelicans' final season under the Atlanta Braves, the club didn't get its tenth win until its 30th game of the campaign, a 2-1 victory over, ironically, the Lynchburg Hillcats, now the Braves' Advanced A club.

Game three of the four-game set pits Myrtle Beach right-hander Joe Wieland (0-1, 1.50) against Kinston lefty T.J. House (0-1, 8.10) at 6:30 at Grainger Stadium.

Following four games at Kinston, the Pelicans return home for their first multi-series homestand of 2011 at BB&T Coastal Field hosting the Potomac Nationals and Frederick Keys from April 25 through May 1. Tickets for all Pelicans home games can be purchased by visiting the BB&T Coastal Field Box office, the Tickets page at MyrtleBeachPelicans.com, or by calling (843)918-6000 or (877)918-TIXX.
