Kinston's Three Game Win Streak Comes to an End with a 10-0 loss

It was a rough start for the K-Tribe as two errors, a single, walk and hit batter led to two runs for Myrtle Beach in the top of the first inning. Ryan Stausborger scored on an error after reaching on an error. Jared Hoying drove in a run later in the inning on an RBI ground out. The Pelicans took a 4-0 lead in the top of the second inning on a two-run home run by Travis Adair. Kinston starting pitcher Giovanni Soto then settled down, retiring the final 12 batters he faced after giving up the homer. Soto (0-3) took the loss, going 5 1/3 innings, giving up four runs (three earned) on four hits. He walked one and struck out two.

Myrtle Beach starter Robbie Ross was very good in the win, giving up just three hits and no runs in 5 2/3 innings. Ross (2-0) struck out four and has yet to give up a run this season.

In the sixth inning, Joey Mahalic entered the game from the K-Tribe bullpen and was greeted with back-to-back singles. The Pelicans made the score 5-0 later in the inning on an RBI ground-out from Jared Prince. Myrtle Beach would add another run in the seventh inning and then put the game away with four runs in the top of the eighth inning. Mahalic went 2 1/3 innings, giving up six runs on six hits. Preston Guilmet finished the game for Kinston giving up one hit and striking out one in 1 1/3 innings of work.

The K-Tribe and Pelicans continue the series Saturday night in Kinston at Historic Grainger Stadium. T.J. House will be on the mound for Kinston. Game time 6:30 pm with fireworks after the contest.
