Colorado Springs Sky Sox News Release
Blake DeWitt's fifth hit Sunday broke a 6-6 tie and proved to be the game winner as Las Vegas took the finale from Colorado Springs at Security Service Field in front of 5,713 fans.
The 51s second baseman finished the series 11-for-19 with three doubles, a triple, two home runs and eight RBI after going 5-for-5 Sunday. His two-out single in the first inning preceded John Lindsey's 25th home run of the season and put the 51s ahead early.
The 51s padded their lead with a four-run fifth inning. Xavier Paul and Jason Repko led off the inning with back-to-back walks before DeWitt's third hit of the game plated Paul. Following a sacrifice fly from Lindsey that scored Repko, Mitch Jones connected on his 16th home run of the year.
Miguel Pinango started the game for the 51s, but left the game in the fourth inning after attempting a sacrifice bunt with runners on the corners and one out. The bunt went back to Jason Hirsh who tossed it to Adam Melhuse at first base. Melhuse then threw a dart to Edwin Bellorin at the plate in time to tag out Andy Chavez, who was trying to score from third base.
Pinango could only watch as B.J. LaMura (2-2) struggled to hold the six-run lead. The reliever allowed two runs in the fifth inning before giving up three runs in the sixth inning.
Ryan Spilborghs and Melhuse hit consecutive doubles to open the sixth inning before Matt Miller and Bellorin followed with back-to-back singles. Joe Koshansky capped the inning with a pinch-hit RBI single to bring the Sky Sox to within a run.
Spilborghs tied the game an inning later with a home run to center field.
Jason Hirsh started the game for the Sky Sox and went six innings. He allowed six runs and nine hits.
Justin Ordenduff pitched two hitless innings to earn his first save of the season.
Steven Register (5-3) took the loss after allowing one run in two innings of work.
Colorado Springs welcomes Tucson to town Monday. Sean Smith (5-5, 5.64) will take the ball for the 6:05 MDT game, opposite Evan MacLane (7-7, 4.78).
