Portland Beavers News Release

PORTLAND, Ore. - Travis Chick tossed seven shutout innings and Craig Wilson homered for the second consecutive game as the Tacoma Rainiers beat the Portland Beavers 7-4 before a crowd of 9,491 at PGE Park Sunday afternoon.

Chick, a former San Diego Padres minor leaguer, struck out seven and gave up four hits for the Rainiers (73-62), who took four-of-five in the series with the Beavers (68-67).

Brett Dowdy hit a ninth-inning grand slam off former Beaver Jared Wells, but it was too little, too late for the Beavers, who have lost their last four games.

Justin Thomas logged the final out to record the save.

Nick Vincent, a first-year professional transferred to Portland from Class A Eugene to make a spot start, allowed four runs (3 earned) on two hits and a walk in five innings in his Triple-A debut. Vincent (0-1) retired the side in order in the first inning, but he hit Victor Diaz with a pitch and gave up a two-run shot to Wilson in the second.

The Rainiers doubled their advantage in the fifth, getting a two-run single up the middle from Oswaldo Navarro.

Shawn Garrett added an eighth-inning RBI single and Prentice Redman tacked on a two-run single in the ninth for the Rainiers, who have won five of their last six games.

The Beavers begin their final home series of the season when they open a five-game set with division-leading Salt Lake on Monday. First pitch is 7:05 p.m.
