SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Tim Sestito sunk his former squad, as his team-leading seventh goal of the year at 2:43 of the overtime period gave the Lowell Devils a 3-2 win over the Springfield Falcons on Saturday at the MassMutual Center.
The former Falcon gathered a drop pass off the boards from Alexander Vasyunov and unleashed a wrister from the far circle that sailed into the back of the net. The victory ended a three-game winless streak for the Devils as they prepare for a busy four-game, six-day stretch next week.
Tied 1-1, Lowell took its first lead of the contest at 13:45 of the second when Nick Palmieri tallied his first goal of the year. Skating on a 3-on-1 rush, Ben Walter sidestepped the defenseman in the slot and backhanded a pass to Palmieri who kicked the puck to his stick before firing it past a fallen Devan Dubnyk.
Springfield responded at 7:07 of the third period when Ryan Potulny released a shot from between the hashmarks that sailed over the glove of Mike McKenna. The Devils goalie would go one to finish the game with 21 saves for his fourth win of the season.
The Falcons scored first at 11:02 of the opening frame when a Colton Fretter wraparound attempt was blocked by McKenna, but Charles Linglet was left alone on the far post to put back the rebound.
On the ensuing faceoff, Springfield's Ryan MacMurchy gave Lowell an extended power play opportunity when he was assessed a double minor for roughing Brad Snetinger. The Devils would need only 26 seconds to even the contest, 1-1, as Matt Taormina blasted a slapshot past Dubnyk.
The Lowell Devils return home to take on the Hershey Bears on Wednesday, November 4 at 7:00PM. Tune into WWZN-1510AM or go to AHLlive.com to listen to all of the live action.
