Chicago Wolves News Release
AUSTIN, Texas---The Chicago Wolves allowed three goals in a 2:33 span in the first period and could never recover as they dropped a 4-1 decision to the Texas Stars at the Cedar Park Center Saturday night.
Right wing Anthony Stewart notched the lone goal for Chicago (3-6-0-1) who lost in regulation for the first time in four games.
Texas (7-2-0-2) opened scoring at 14:47 of the opening frame when center Perttu Lindgren's pass attempt through the slot bounced off a Wolves defenseman and the puck came right back to Lindgren who deposited the puck into the open net past Chicago goaltender Manny Legace.
The Stars made their lead two just 67 seconds later when center Aaron Gagnon's pass from the end line ricocheted off the side of the Wolves net and the puck went right to a streaking Francis Wathier who slipped the puck through Legace's legs.
Texas went up 3-0 when the Stars won a faceoff in the Wolves zone and Lindgren held the puck behind the net and found left wing Landon Wilson parked at the top of the crease who one-timed the puck past Legace at 17:20.
Wilson pushed the Stars lead to 4-0 with his second goal of the game at 12:37 of the second stanza when he ripped a shot from the blue line that beat Legace top shelf.
Legace (2-2-1) kicked out 14 of 18 shots in 40 minutes of action. Goaltender Peter Mannino posted eight saves in 19:52 of relief duty.
The Wolves got on the board when center Riley Holzapfel's shot was stopped by Stars netminder Brent Krahn but he gave up a huge rebound and Stewart skated in and one-timed a shot past Krahn.
Krahn (5-1-0) turned aside 30 shots.
The Wolves return home tomorrow night to take on the Rockford IceHogs at the Allstate Arena at 5 p.m.
