Detroit City FC to Take on Sacramento Republic FC in California on Saturday Night
April 21, 2023 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Detroit City FC News Release
Sacramento, California - Detroit City FC are wrapping up their three-match road trip with a move out west for a clash with the Western Conference leaders Sacramento Republic FC. The match is set to kick off at 10:00 PM Eastern, 7:00 Local time with streaming available on ESPN+.
Detroit City FC is coming off their first clean sheet of the USL Championship season in their 0-0 draw on the road to The Miami FC on the weekend. Le Rouge created dangerous chances throughout the match and looked dangerous when Adrian Billhardt, making his first start in the USL Championship was on the ball with space to run in front of him.
Ben Morris had a chance at the goal in the first half, linking up well with strike partner Yazeed Matthews before letting a shot rip from outside of the area. The Miami FC goalkeeper was quick to act and get their hands on the strike to keep the match leveled up at 0-0.
Detroit City FC will have a quick turnaround following Saturday's match, hurrying home before a Tuesday evening cup tie against Minnesota United FC of Major League Soccer in the third round of the US Open Cup.
Sacramento Republic FC comes into Saturday's match in fine form with their defense off to a nearly-historic start in the USL Championship, earning five clean sheets in their first six matches. Sacramento also finds themselves atop the league in goals per game, tied with Charleston Battery FC of the Eastern Conference with an average of two goals per match.
In their most recent match, Sacramento Republic FC thrashed the Coloardo Springs Switchbacks by a score of 4-0 thanks to a three-goal first half blitz which saw an opening goal inside of 10 minutes from Russell Cicerone, a Michigan native himself.
The hosts shocked the US Soccer landscape last year, making it all the way to the US Open Cup Final where they would lose to Orlando City SC of Major League Soccer by a score of 3-0. They would defeat Sporting Kansas City, the LA Galaxy, the San Jose Earthquakes, and Central Valley Fuego FC en route to the final.
Detroit City FC's next match in the USL Championship is scheduled for April 29 when the Tampa Bay Rowdies visit town, tickets for that match are available and can be purchased at detcityfc.com/tickets, Le Rouge is also welcoming Minnesota United FC of Major League Soccer in the Third Round of the US Open Cup on April 25.
