Monterey Bay FC News Release
INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana - Monterey Bay F.C. (2-2-2, 8 points) travels to Indianapolis for an Eastern Conference matchup at 4 p.m. PT on Saturday against Indy Eleven (1-2-2, 5 points) at Michael A. Carroll Stadium in Week 7 of the 2023 USL Championship regular season. Live streaming of the match will be available on ESPN+.
Monterey Bay F.C. and Indy Eleven last met on September 17, 2022 in a 5-0 rout for the Union at Cardinale Stadium in Seaside. Chase Boone, Sam Gleadle, Christian Volesky, and James Murphy all scored for the Crisp and Kelp in the match. The second-half screamer from Murphy was first professional goal. With a win in the only meeting between the interconference sides so far, Monterey Bay F.C. owns the all-time record 1-0-0 over Indy. However, this will be the first matchup between the sides at Michael A. Carroll in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Indy Eleven started the season off hot with a win and two draws, but has since cooled off with back-to-back losses to fellow Californian and Western Conference sides Oakland Roots SC and Orange County SC. Mark Lowry's side boasts a strong core of Jack Blake, Cameron Lindley, Aodhan Quinn, Soloman Asante, Douglas Martínez and others, but six weeks into the campaign, Indy sits just above the playoff line in eighth place in the Eastern Conference. On the other hand, Monterey Bay F.C. is beginning to gain some steam with consecutive positive results and will look to continue its rise up the Western Conference ladder with another positive result on the weekend.
"It's a big game for us," explained Volesky. "It could be easy to let the match on Tuesday distract us, but our focus has to be on the league match on Saturday. I know Mark Lowry as a coach. He is really good and they play a really attractive style of football, so we can't get trapped in this match. We have to be on the front foot and get after them a bit. We can't let them control the game like they want to. Hopefully we can get the first goal and then the second, kill the game off and then turn our focus to the Earthquakes. All of us are looking forward to that one."
