EDINBURG, Texas - The 2023 USL Championship season continues to age as Rio Grande Valley FC (WEST: 1-1-3, 6 pts) returns home after a short road trip to host Memphis 901 FC (EAST: 0-2-2, 2 pts) on Saturday, April 22 at 6:00 p.m. CST at H-E-B Park. The match will be live nationally on ESPN+.
RGV FC: The side is ready to bounce back after a tough loss on the road to Pittsburgh Riverhounds 2-0, their largest loss margin of the season. Rio Grande was unable to perform well on both ends of the field on April 15 and look to erase that memory once and for all as they look to learn from those mistakes and play a safer and more overall sound match at home this Saturday, April 22.
In midweek meetings with the media, Sporting Director Wilmer Cabrera emphasized that the team did not perform anything close to the desired level and they have been working on fine tuning the defense to avoid those mishaps from repeating in H-E-B Park.
The overall factor in this match will be the control of pace in the match and the execution of any and all offensive approaches in the match in order to prevail over a Memphis 901 FC side who come to Edinburg seeking to stun and earn their first three points of the season.
Two familiar faces will return to H-E-B Park as Dylan Borczak and Akeem Ward are now rostered with Memphis 901 FC after seeing considerable minutes under Wilmer Cabrera during the 2022 USL Championship campaign. Additionally, experienced goalkeeping veteran Bill Hamid will make it a slightly more difficult task for the attacking squad as he looks to spoil their plans of obtaining a desired result at home.
