Detroit City FC News Release
Memphis, Tennessee - Detroit City FC fought hard on the road this evening in Memphis, standing tall defensively to earn a clean sheet and come home with a point in a 0-0 this evening from AutoZone Park.
In their second match of the week, Le Rouge opted to start the same eleven that defeated the Hartford Athletic by 3-1 on the road, running the risk of tired legs as the match rolled on.
Detroit City FC would be the more dangerous side in the first half of play with the highlight of the half coming as forward Skage Simonsen was played through on goal following an excellent ball across the Memphis penalty area by Ben Morris, a combination that proved to be lethal on Wednesday night. Simonsen's shot forced a great reflex saved out of the Memphis keeper.
Memphis would create chances of their own in the first half, flubbing a handful of opportunities where they had numbers committed forward and the ball in space.
The hosts would come out of the halftime interval swinging, putting pressure on the Detroit City FC backline and causing issues inside of the penalty area. Goalkeeper Nate Steinwascher was called into urgent action in the 51st minute, getting down to his right to make a phenomenal save to keep the score level at 0-0.
After the 60th minute, Detroit City FC began to assert themselves once again with Ben Morris being played through on goal at a tight angle in the 75th minute, he turned on the jets but saw his shot deflected and out of play for a corner.
The final chance of the match would fall to Brett Levis, who was subbed on in the 61st minute of play as he dribbled his way into space before putting his shot just wide of the frame.
Tonight's 0-0 draw extends Detroit City FC's unbeaten run to five matches in the league and tonight's clean sheet is Le Rouge's fourth in their last five and fifth on the season.
Detroit City FC next takes the pitch on Saturday, June 24 when they welcome Orange County SC to Keyworth Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 PM.
