
Dessau Tosses Another Complete Game

The Calgary Vipers got a complete game victory from Erik Dessau in defeating the Yuma Scorpions 6-2 at Foothills Stadium in Calgary, Alberta. For Dessau (5-1) it was his second straight complete game and his league high third of the season. The right-hander tossed all nine innings giving up two runs while striking out five and walking only one. With the victory the Vipers extended their franchise record for consecutive victories to nine games and improved to 3-0 on the second half of the Golden Baseball League's season.
At the plate Fehlandt Lentini and Drew Miller led the way each going three-for-four with Lentini knocking in two runs and Miller scoring two.
Calgary opened up the scoring in the bottom of the second inning as Miller hit his first triple of the year and Caonabo Cosme plated him with a sacrifice fly for a 1-0 lead.
The Vipers added to their lead in the fourth as Colin Moro walked, Miller singled, and Cosme hit another sacrifice fly. Rick Guarno followed by being hit by a pitch, Dillon O'Krane doubled home one with two outs, and Lentini plated two with a single for a 5-0 advantage.
Moro nailed his sixth home run of the season out to center field in the fifth inning for a 6-0 Calgary lead.
Yuma got onto the scoreboard in the top of the sixth as Deivis Rivadeneira doubled, moved to third on a groundout, and scored on a Reynaldo Rodriguez run batted in grounder for a 6-1 score.
This three-game-series concludes on Sunday July 12th at 1:35 PM MDT with Bark at the Park and Little League Day where fans can bring their dogs to the game and all Little Leaguers get in for free at the Stadium. Joe Sergent (3-3) will start the game for the Vipers and is coming off his fourth no-decision of the season after allowing two earned runs in six innings while striking out four. The left-hander is fourth in the league in earned run average (3.21) and seventh in strikeouts (47).
