Victoria Seals News Release
Edmonton, AB - In search of their first series win at Telus Field this season, the Victoria Seals took on the Edmonton Capitals on Sunday afternoon. In a battle of the top two pitchers in the league, the Capitals turned to Lou Pote (5-0) on the mound while the Seals countered with ace Isaac Hess (7-0).
Bolting out of the gate once again in game three, Victoria got doubles from Wilver Perez and Sergio Pedroza to start the game and take a 1-0 lead. Then, after a walk to Jamar Hill, Josh Arhart ripped the Seals' third double of the opening frame to give the visitors two-run lead, before Carlos Duncan grounded into a double play and Hill scored from third for a 3-0 advantage.
After Darryl Brinkley hit his team-leading eighth home run of the year to put the Capitals on the board, Edmonton rallied to tie the game in the bottom of the second on a two-run blast from second basemen Mitch Graham.
Taking a one-run lead again in the third, the Seals got another double from Arhart, followed by a single from Brian Rios and a sacrifice fly from Brett Flowers to go up by a 4-3 score. Extending their lead in the top of the fourth, it was Arhart at it again for Victoria, crushing his second three-run home run in as many nights to lift the Seals to a 7-3 advantage.
With Perez launching his sixth long ball of the year out of the park in the top of the sixth, Edmonton bounced back with a pair of unearned runs against Hess following a lead-off error to put Brinkley on base. As the Capitals drew within three at 8-5, the Seals found more insurance in the seventh frame, scoring a single from Flowers on a sacrifice fly to centre field from Bret LeVier.
Turning a highlight-reel double play, their third of the game, on a diving snag from Perez to kill the Edmonton threat in the eighth, Victoria went back to the offence in the top of the ninth inning. A lead-off single from Flowers, followed by an RBI double off the bat of LeVier and another base hit from Pedroza added two more to the Seals' total, leaving the visitors up 11-5. With Ethan Katz on to finish of the Capitals in the ninth, Victoria wins their second in a row at Telus Field, while notching an astonishing 50 hits in three games this weekend.
With the win, Isaac Hess improves to a perfect 8-0 to start the year, while Lou Pote suffered his first loss on the hill for Edmonton this season. Both Sergio Pedroza and Josh Arhart finished with three hits for the Seals, combining for six RBI's in the winning effort.
