Seals Out-Bark the Capitals

July 12, 2009 - Golden Baseball League (GBL)
Edmonton Capitals News Release

Edmonton, AB - Bark in the Park took over TELUS Field on a beautiful Sunday afternoon as over 3,000 spectators and approximately 150 dogs saw the Victoria Seals defeat the Capitals 11-5. The rubber match victory gave the Seals the series win. The Caps now have a 3-3 second half record and are 26-21 overall.

The entire game had a canine theme to it. Everything from on-field promotions to music and interviews featured dogs, their owners and the Edmonton Humane Society. A portion of the Bark in the Park ticket proceeds were donated to the Humane Society and three dogs currently available for adoption were spotlighted throughout the afternoon.

In the game, Victoria got off to a quick start against Capitals pitcher Lou Pote with three runs in the first inning and led 7-3 by the time Pote exited following the fifth. The Capitals attempted to mount a couple of comebacks but were unable to keep Pote (5-1, 1.86 ERA) from losing his first game of the season. Isaac Hess (8-0, 2.47 ERA), the pitcher with the most wins thus far in the Golden Baseball League, remained unbeaten for Victoria.

At the plate, Darryl Brinkley and Mitch Graham had early home runs for the Caps. Joey Gomes, Jorge Cortes, Chad Ehrnsberger and John Pasieka each had a pair of hits in the game. Victoria's Wilver Perez and Josh Arhart each had home runs. Arhart finished a triple short of the cycle but did also reach base after being hit by a pitch.

Next up for seven members of the Capitals is an invitation to the GBL All Star Game in St. George, Utah on Tuesday. The Caps players selected to represent the North Division are Chad Ehrnsberger, Darryl Brinkley, Lou Pote, Kris Honel, Jason Pearson, Todd Privett and Aaron Easton. The team will then travel to Victoria to begin a four-game series on Thursday before returning to TELUS Field for the first round of the 2009 Battle of Alberta against the Calgary Vipers on Tuesday, July 21-23.

Tickets for all Edmonton Capitals home games are available at the Capitals Box Office at TELUS Field, any TicketMaster location, by calling 780-414-GOAL (4625) or by visiting CapsBaseball.ca.
