Saint John Sea Dogs News Release

CHARLOTTETOWN, PEI --- The league-leading Saint John Sea Dogs (25-3-0-2) captured their ninth consecutive victory on Tuesday night, defeating the P.E.I. Rocket by a score of 3-2 in front of nearly two thousand fans at the Charlottetown Civic Centre. Zack Phillips, Jonathan Huberdeau, and Simon Després provided Saint John's offence in the hard-fought road effort, while veteran goalie Frédéric Piché stopped 26 of the 28 shots sent his way by Rocket skaters in improving to 12-3 on the season.

At the other end of the ice, Philippe Paradis and Matthew Hobbs each tallied markers for P.E.I. (15-14-1-1) in a losing effort, with overage net minder Evan Mosher suffering his 14th defeat of the year despite turning in a stellar 42-save performance between the pipes for the home side. The lone goal of period number one came off the stick of second-year sniper Zack Phillips, who buried a picture-perfect cross-ice feed from Steven Anthony 8:49 into the stanza to pick up the 22nd goal of his season. Jonathan Huberdeau also drew a helper on Phillips' man-up marker.

Prince Edward Island pulled even on a retaliatory power play goal, which came in the form of a Matthew Hobbs one-timer 4:08 into the second period. The Sea Dogs then pulled back ahead courtesy of sophomore scoring sensation Jonathan Huberdeau, who jammed a loose puck across the Rocket's goal line at the 16:23 mark of the middle frame.

Chicago Blackhawks prospect Philippe Paradis produced the hosts' second goal of the night in the opening minute of the third period, banging home a rebound produced by a Ben Duffy shot to both improve his 2010-11 goals total to thirteen and tie things up at two apiece. A great individual effort by superstar blue-liner Simon Després then gave the visitors a 3-2 lead in the 59th minute of play, as the hulking rearguard assertively carried the puck the length of the ice prior to ripping a hard wrist shot past Mosher to make the eighth goal of his season of the game-winning variety.

These two teams will meet again at Harbour Station on Wednesday evening on the first Value Night of the season. Special $6 upper bowl seats are available for this mid-week tilt, which gets underway at 7:00pm. Tickets to this exciting intradivisional showdown can be obtained by calling the arena box office at (506) 657-1234, or by visiting www.tickets.harbourstation.ca.
